Even the independent traveller could end up paying a little more for a lot less. Advance booking of best value ferries and hotels will ensure there is a place waiting for you. It also means you will get the best price. Turning up at the ferry without a reservation will often cost more. The popular hotels we use are often fully booked on the nights we stay at them and we have seen many people without reservations being turned away. Should they then be lucky enough to find a hotel with vacancies, it will cost more and may lack important facilities such as free off road parking.
Motorcycles are usually charged lower toll rates than cars, but we see many UK motorcyclists actually pay the same by riding through the automated toll booths.
